Move-Out Cleaning Checklist: Steps to Leave Your Space Spotless
Moving out can be stressful, but a clear cleaning plan makes the process easier. Use this checklist to leave your home fresh, organized, and ready for the next resident.
1. Declutter every room
Remove unwanted items, donate what you can, and dispose of trash before cleaning. Empty rooms are much easier to clean thoroughly.
2. Clean from top to bottom
Dust ceiling fans, light fixtures, shelves, and walls first. Then clean countertops, cabinets, appliances, floors, and baseboards so dust does not settle on areas you already finished.
3. Focus on the kitchen
Wipe inside and outside cabinets, clean the oven and refrigerator, scrub sinks, sanitize counters, and remove grease from backsplashes and range hoods.
4. Refresh the bathrooms
Scrub showers, tubs, toilets, sinks, mirrors, grout, and floors. Check drawers and cabinets for forgotten items, and replace burned-out bulbs if needed.
5. Do the details people notice
Clean windows and tracks, wipe doors and handles, remove marks from walls where possible, vacuum closets, and mop hard floors. Do one final check inside drawers, behind doors, and under appliances.
6. Finish with a final walkthrough
Take photos after cleaning, confirm that keys and remotes are accounted for, remove all trash, and review any move-out requirements from your landlord or property manager.
